Hello! I’m Madhavi Seneviratne, the content creator behind this site. I’m originally from Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka where I grew up. I moved to the United States to attend college and have lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years since then. Over the years I’ve figured out many tips and alternate ingredients to recreate the taste of Sri Lankan home-cooking. I’ve always wanted to start a food blog so I finally took the plunge this year in 2021 and decided to dedicate it to Sri Lankan food adapted for those living outside Sri Lanka.
I’ve enjoyed cooking since I was a teenager. The basics of Sri Lankan food I learned from my mother. My mother gifted me with Anita Dickman’s Cookery Course long ago which is popular for Sri Lankan recipes. My mother, had taken that original cookery course from Mrs. Dickman in her youth. Years ago I also purchased The Daily News Cookery Book which my father recommended. Those are my go-to books. [Note: If I do use someone’s recipe as-is I will credit it to it’s original source.]
These days I have a young child and time has become precious. So I’ve adapted cooking to be less time-consuming or I freeze portions etc. I have days where I spend a several hours in the kitchen and days where kitchen-time is just a few minutes. Hence the title – “Kitchen Days”.
